Personally? I see Silent Hill as being a far more twisted and cruel place that isn't looking to teach its inhabitants a life lesson - but to punish them for the sins they've committed in that cyclical fashion I mentioned earlier. Yours in an interesting interpretation though with more hope than I'd given that ending credit for. If anything, for me it was the ultimate cop-out for a man that even despite the clarity he gains at the end of it all - still can't come to grips with he's done and decides to give up and give his life as penance. It can be argued that he does, but I didn't see the In-Water ending as cleansing of the soul as you did. As you say note, it doesn't suprise me to see someone say that James deserves death. is amazingly sad and it pays off the feelings of disappointment the player has in James for being well.a murderer.
